The Story Circle Network is the only lifewriting program designed exclusively for women. Since 1997, our nonprofit organization has offered learning opportunities in memoir, reminiscence, journaling, poetry, family stories, kitchen table stories, writing-as-healing, writing for personal growth and spiritual development, poetry, blogging, and other areas. We teach general writing skills, organization, and critical editing, as well as technical skills in book design and development, online marketing, blogging, and other Internet-related activities.

Fall Classes for Women Writers
|
|
|
Fall is coming, school is starting, and you're thinking of sharpening your writing skills and polishing your prose. You can do that at home (in your sweats or your jammies, if you like), with the help of our experienced teachers and in the company of virtual classmates from all over the world. Sounds like magic? We think so! And when you've taken one our full-term (7-8 weeks) or 3-week mini-courses, we think you'll agree!
SCN's Fall term begins September 14. Online enrollment is easy and fast, but class sizes are strictly limited (that's the nature of online learning), so please hurry. If the class you want is already filled, try another.
•"Beginning Blogging."
Taught by Katherine Misegades, a website designer, blog instructor, and graphic artist.
Blogs are websites that allow a person to add and manage content without needing to know how to write code. Among their many uses, blogs can be used for journaling, and can be kept private by using a password. A blog can be set up and customized within an hour or two. This course offers technical information to help potential bloggers set up a blog and get comfortable with managing it.

•"Write Your Travel Memoirs" [short course].
Taught by Sarah White, freelance writer, memoir teacher.
Writing a travel memoir is a spectacular opportunity to practice the craft of creative nonfiction writing. as well as to discover new perspectives on your life. In this class, you will explore writing character and place descriptions, staging scenes, and conveying lessons learned. You'll work on transforming your travel experiences into autobiographical essays suitable for sharing with friends and family, or submitting for publication.

•"Finding Your Voice, Part I" [mini-course].
Taught by Amber Starfire, Publisher & Editor of The Writer's Eye Magazine, freelance editor, writer, & photographer, Editor of SCN's 2009 True Words Anthology.
Each writer has a unique way of seeing and experiencing life. Each writer also has a unique style, or "voice," a one-of-a-kind way of expressing herself, yet it requires practice and skill to identify and allow that voice to be "heard" through the act of putting words on paper. What makes your writing authentic, powerful, and uniquely yours? Find out in this two-course series. You can take one or both of the four-week courses; there are no prerequisites other than a desire to learn.

•"Nighttime Illuminations" [mini-course].
Taught by Donna Remmert, trained dream coach and experienced teacher.
This is a course in remembering, recording, and interpreting dreams.

•"Painless Grammar for People Who've Forgotten What They Knew."
Taught by Robin Reger, a professional writer and writing teacher.
Are you serious about your writing? Serious writing requires polished grammar skills. Do you ever wonder when to "dash"? Would a parenthetical clause be more appropriate? Do you know when to use the ellipsis? Do you remember how to punctuate a sentence that contains quotation marks? How about a quotation within a quotation? Good grammar creates better writing. If you'd like to improve your prose and become more confident that your story is coming across exactly as you want it to, then you'll enjoy this class.

•"The Craft of Memoir Writing: Hot Fudge Sundaes, Magnolia Blossoms, Soft Cashmere, Screeching Blue Jays and Other Ways to Use the Five Senses to Bring Your Story to Life" [mini-course].
Taught by Matilda Butler & Kendra Bonnett, much-published co-authors of Rosie's Daughters and many other books, and articles, co-coordinators of SCN's Editorial Service, and frequent co-teachers.
The best stories pull the readers into the scenes, immerse them in details. This three-week mini-course is designed to expand your awareness and use of the five senses in telling your life story. In our virtual classroom, you'll learn how to incorporate sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch into your writing and heighten your sensitivity to the depth and range of texture within each sense.
