Class Title: "Playing with our Senses: Looking at the Same World in New Ways" [mini-course]
Instructor: Jennifer Culver
Class Term: enroll in this class
Class Description
"Playing with our Senses: Seeing the Same World in New Ways" begins with an invitation to participants to delve deeper into sensory awareness with various prewriting/journaling activities that encourage them to find a meaningful aspect of their lives to explore more deeply in an observational writing. From there, we will bridge into the drafting of writing by "playing" with sensory language, starting with some sentence stems and moving into discussions of drafting options and models of observational essays. Finally, participants will share stories and discuss revision techniques, using specific strategies to improve their essay for their desired audience.
Weekly reading material will be delivered as a PDF to the Yahoo group for the class. Students may upload their work to the Yahoo group or email it directly to me. We will communicate together in this Yahoo forum, but I will also offer conferences in chat or telephone format, as well as at least three group chat opportunities.
